American Rental began in 1981, in Bloomington, Indiana. We have grown to include more than 50 store locations
throughout Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia by being good at what we do.

WHO WE ARE
Each of our store locations is a bit different depending on where they're located, but all of us are in smaller communities where we get to know the people. We work with others and try to be a good community partner.
And we love helping kids! We must be doing something right because we've been around and locally owned since 1981, and we're still growing.
WHAT WE DO
Everybody wants nice things for their homes, right? At American Rental, we make that possible.
Our customers can do cash and carry or they can rent to own with one of our affordable payment plans.
We help our customers stay on track with their rental payments, so that they can own the merchandise. 100% of rent paid goes towards ownership.
Some other rental companies don't do that. We provide free delivery and installation.
We service what we sell, and we provide loaners if needed during repair.
We don't want our customers to have to do without. We even move the merchandise if a customer relocates locally.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to go after the things they want in life.
That goes for our employees, our customers and for the kids and their families that we help every year.
Over the years, we've given more than $350,000 to Riley Kids and Kosair Kids.
We fill backpacks with school supplies each fall and give them away. And we support a lot of local causes, too.

HOW IT ALL STARTED
YEAR 1981
American Rental had its first store in Bloomington, Indiana, carrying appliances and electronics. Free delivery and installation was offered from the start, and continues to this day. Same holds true for no credit being needed. Current stores range in size from 3600-5000 sq. ft. on average with the largest location being 14,000 sq. ft.
YEAR 1986
Furniture was added to the merchandise offerings.
YEAR 1987
American Rental expanded to 12 stores in Indiana. In the late 90’s, the first locations in Kentucky were opened. David P. David was promoted to Corporate Manager, and was later promoted again in 2018 to be President, a role he holds today.
YEAR 1992
A Distribution Center was opened to accommodate shipping and delivery to all store locations. A second Distribution Center was opened in New Tazewell, Tennessee, in 2016, and in 2021, a third Distribution Center was opened in Lebanon, Indiana. Current store locations number more than 50.
YEAR 1994
Mattresses were added as a needed line of merchandise for our customers. The popular “180 Days Same As Cash” was offered, and continues to this day. Movie rentals were offered for a while, but were dropped in 2010.
YEAR 2004
The current Home Office of American Rental was opened in 2004, along with the main Distribution Center and flagship store.
YEAR 2010
Store locations were expanded to include Virginia, and in 2019 North Carolina saw its first American Rental store.
YEAR 2022
Today, American Rental has more than 50 locations located throughout Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Our vision is to be the Hometown Choice for the cleanest, quality household furnishings while providing a positive and caring atmosphere for customers and team members alike.

More recently, we have also started raising funds for Kosair Kids, too. We have store locations in communities that are supported by Kosair Charities, and they asked if they could raise funds for these kids, too.
So now, in the spring, these employees work with customers to raise funds for Kosair Kids. It's wonderful knowing that you've helped change the future of these children...and their families.
